Dead pair of storks found

Brake (dpa / lni) – In a settlement in Oberhammelwarden (Wesermarsch district), a dead pair of storks was found under their nest. The cause of the death of the animals is still unclear, said Udo Hilfers from the Wesermarsch stork station on Tuesday on request. “Maybe one of them ate something poisonous, spat it out again, and then the other ate it,” the stork connoisseur speculated. The “Nordwest-Zeitung” first reported on the incident.
Hilfers said he wanted to get the eggs that had just been laid out of the nest when he discovered the second dead stork. “Both animals probably fell out of the nest.” That two storks die at about the same time is very unusual. “The stork station has been there for 30 years, but I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Hilfers. The eggs in the nest were already cold. He sent the animals to the University of Munich for examination. Finding out the cause could take some time.
