Due to the corona pandemic, the fifth symphony concert, in which Gustav Mahler’s great choral, soloist and orchestral work was to be performed, had to be canceled. But for the friends of the late romantic, there is now a consolation: Mahler’s 4th Symphony, which was recorded on CD in 2017 as a live recording, can be ordered from the theater box office for a special price of seven euros. It will be sent with the attached invoice.

Many will probably still remember the excellent interpretation of the 4th Mahler Symphony – also in a fifth symphony concert, but in April 2017. General music director Mihkel Kütson decided at that time that it was the right time to make a CD recording, because between him and the orchestra has grown in remarkable harmony over the years.

“We understand each other almost without words. In this richly nuanced work, the numerous instrumental solos as well as the colorful overall sound can come into their own and demonstrate the qualities of the orchestra, ”said the conductor at the time. “We are also able to adequately fill the extensive solo in the fourth movement with soprano Sophie Witte.”

The recording – financed by the Krefeld theater friends at the time – captivates with its transparent sound quality and captivates thanks to the variety of interpretative interpretations. A highlight is the “childlike” by Sophie Witte – as requested by the composer – but still full of silver gloss in the final movement.
