CUIJK | Marikenhuis Land van Cuijk finally has its own branch in its field of work. The entry center for psychosocial support for people with cancer officially opened in the Land van Cuijk last February. The Marikenhuis were able to help people from this region in places rented from Sociom. Now that it finally has its own building, the Marikenhuis can spread its wings even better. “We want to make the barrier to entry as low as possible. “
Many people are diagnosed with cancer because they or someone close to them has been diagnosed with it. A cancer diagnosis has a psychological impact.
“As Marikenhuis we want to support people in these vulnerable times and improve their quality of life.” These are the words of Mitille de Wolf, coordinator of the Marikenhuis Land van Cuijk, and the volunteer advanced health trainer Yvon Dieks. “Recent research has shown that because the IPSO houses are there – that IPSO is the umbrella organization to which the Marikenhuis belong – that fewer people are getting into the care cycle,” says Mitille. people receiving psychiatric support, respite and co-sufferers in these IPSO houses, which will ensure better and better health.”
Personal meaning
Yvon explains this further: “It’s about meaning and quality of life. People with cancer face certain limitations. It is then very important not to focus on that, but on what is still possible and what makes you happy.” When you think of health, you quickly think of whether you are sick or not. But, according to Yvon, health is much more than that. “There are aspects of life you can still enjoy. That’s what it’s about. May you take control into your own hands and find resilience. This way you can deal with your own situation much better and feel less sick. ” Thanks to Yvon, this way of thinking is increasingly coming to light at the Marikenhuis Land van Cuijk, and also in Nijmegen. In peer groups, people talk to each other. By talking about cancer and how to deal with it, people can discover how they can develop more personal meaning. In addition to peer groups, the Marikenhuis offers lectures, theme mornings, creativity, walking talks, consultation hours on nutrition and cancer or yoga. “All activities contribute to positive health. “
The land of Chuijk
The Marikenhuis are increasingly known in the Land van Cuijk. That is a good thing because such an initiative is needed in this area. For many people, the threshold to go to Nijmegen seems too high. People find it too far to travel or they don’t feel comfortable in the city. Now that we have this building in Cuijk, we are lowering those thresholds. ” Yvon explains. “We want to come to the people, to lower that level even more. What we can see in the future is that we will, for example, go to De Weijer, Oelbroeck or Myllesweerd and organize lectures or meetings and talk to the people there. Maybe this will make it easier for them to find their way to the Marikenhuis in Cuijk.”
By simply walking in, that’s what you should always be able to do in Cuijk from 31 August. The visitor center on Molenstraat will be officially opened that Saturday. Mitille: “We invite everyone to come and see. Whether you need support or want to volunteer. You are most welcome.
