Lower Ham. Work on the aquatic center will begin

Two indoor pools, including a sports one, 250 m² each, a 100 m² paddling pool, a three-lane Pentagliss, two slides, a Nordic pool, as well as a fitness and well-being area … This is, in general terms, what you will discover in 2023 by pushing the doors of the new aquatic center in the Portes de France agglomeration. The commune of Basse-Ham was chosen to host this future leisure area on the Nautic’ham site.

A colossal project over nearly two years

To take the plunge, you’ll have to wait a bit. Work begins this March and will be completed in the fall of 2022. Initially, the foundations and structural work will occupy the companies, as well as the construction of the basins. Then it will be the turn of waterproofing and the wooden frame by the beginning of 2022. The third stage will be devoted to exterior fittings, equipment and floors. Tests are announced for winter 2022, just before commissioning.

This colossal project reached 12 M € HT. The State and the National Sports Agency will each contribute € 750,000, the Grand Est Region will contribute € 200,000, the Arc Mosellan € 800,000. The Department of Moselle is generously supporting the project with a nice envelope of € 2.5 million.

160,000 annual admissions

For memory, this project was decided to meet the needs of the territory which has only one swimming pool, for nearly 80,000 inhabitants. Obviously, the establishment, community since 2019, located in Thionville, is saturated. It was therefore urgent to find a solution to allow schoolchildren as well as athletes and swimming enthusiasts to be able to devote themselves to the discipline. The annual attendance of this new aquatic paradise is estimated at 160,000 admissions.
