Lower Franconia’s vaccination centers are underutilized. Now they are preparing for the vaccine deliveries that have been promised for the coming week. Statements about what and what quantities were being delivered changed almost daily, explains Johannes Hardenacke, spokesman for the government of Lower Franconia, when asked by the BR: “We still assume that the can delivery will increase significantly and that the vaccination centers will be busy Maybe even more vaccination lines need to be opened. “
Würzburg area: So far fewer than 19,000 people have been vaccinated
At the beginning of December 2020 – before the start of vaccinations – 2,000 vaccinations per day were planned for the two vaccination centers in the city and district of Würzburg. Currently, due to the lack of a vaccine, only 5,000 vaccine doses can be administered – per week. So far, 18,387 people have been vaccinated in the vaccination centers and by mobile teams (as of February 24, 21), around 15,000 of them with the BioNTech vaccine. Should more vaccine be delivered shortly, the staff at the Würzburg vaccination center on the Talavera would have to be increased again.
Originally, 17 decentralized vaccination lines were also planned in the Würzburg district. These are currently not used, but are in preparation. Mobile vaccination teams are still in use and are currently fully utilized, confirms Michael Dröse, administrative manager of the vaccination centers in the city and district of Würzburg. Should more vaccine from the manufacturer AstraZeneca become available, then there could also be vaccinations in general practitioners’ practices. This vaccine is easier to store, emphasizes the medical coordinator of the vaccination centers in the city and district of Würzburg, Dr. Christian Zander: “We are in talks with our general practitioner coordinators, the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Bavaria (KVB) and the Ministry of Health. However, you have to take into account that the transfer of data to the Bavarian system has not yet been set up and the documentation is time-consuming Practice staff cannot currently do that. ” In addition, the legal basis for vaccinations in practices has so far been lacking, according to Zander.
Aschaffenburg area: More vaccination locations could open
In the city and district of Aschaffenburg, around 4,500 vaccinations are currently administered per week. So far, almost 5 percent of the population in the Aschaffenburg area has been vaccinated, that is around 17,000 people. The Aschaffenburg Health Department has not yet received any specific promises about larger vaccine deliveries. Nevertheless, there are also initial considerations to open further vaccination sites. There are various alternatives in the room: For example the Aschaffenburg town hall or halls in Kahl am Main or in the Alzenau district of Hörstein. Having vaccinations carried out in general practitioners’ practices is desirable. You cannot decide independently, said a spokesman for the Aschaffenburg health department. A regulation of the Bavarian state government is expected.
Miltenberg district: Vaccination capacity should increase almost four times
In the Miltenberg district, the vaccination rate is 4.2 percent, around 8,000 people were vaccinated here. According to the health department, the vaccination rate has risen steadily: Two weeks ago, 80 vaccinations were given per day, last week it was 140. Today (February 24th) 264 people were vaccinated. The vaccination center in Miltenberg is currently designed for 300 vaccinations per day; it will be expanded to a capacity of 1,100 people in the next few weeks. In order to ensure the simplest possible process, the city is still looking for parking spaces around the vaccination center. If the vaccine deliveries continue to increase, they will stay in Miltenberg “for logistical reasons” because it is easier to expand the center there, says Miltenberg’s district administrator Jens Scherf. General practitioners are of course an option: “The general practitioners scratch their hooves and are ready to take part in the vaccination.”
Schweinfurt area: decentralized vaccination stations planned
Around 10,000 people in the city and district of Schweinfurt have so far been vaccinated. At the beginning of February, mobile vaccination teams vaccinated all residents in retirement and nursing homes in the Schweinfurt area. Since then, seniors over 80 who do not live in a senior facility have also been vaccinated. The common vaccination center of the city and district on the Schweinfurt Volksfestplatz has been operational since mid-December 2020, but did not begin regular operations until February 15. According to the city, an earlier opening of the vaccination center was not possible – because of the lack of vaccine delivery. 1,000 people who registered online received an invitation to vaccinate.
“From April 2021 we expect more steady vaccine deliveries and – compared to now – in significantly larger quantities”, says Andreas Lösch, press spokesman for the Schweinfurt district office. Therefore, the vaccination capacity should be increased with decentralized vaccination lines. As a first step, a decentralized vaccination center will be set up in Gerolzhofen from March. As a result, the population of the Gerolzhofen administrative community would also have to be vaccinated at this vaccination center. A vaccination in Schweinfurt would then be excluded, so Lösch.
