Lower Franconia is about to have the “most congested weekend”

The ADAC expects the start of the holiday season in Bavaria with the “busiest weekend” of the travel season. It is true that no chaos is to be expected on the region’s motorways as in the years before the corona pandemic. But when the summer holidays start for the Bavarian schoolchildren on Friday, a lot comes together.

Because in addition to Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg is also starting its vacation. At the same time, the school-free period ends in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein, Berlin, Brandenburg and Hamburg, which is why the ADAC also expects “more traffic on the home routes”. Since the holidays in Bavaria start one day earlier on Friday, an increased volume of traffic can also be expected on Thursday afternoon and Friday in combination with the usual rush hour traffic.

Where the main congestion areas are in Lower Franconia

In addition, because of the increasing incidence in other European countries, many could forego major vacation trips and instead plan short breaks or day trips in Bavaria. This is one of the reasons why “heavy traffic is to be expected” in the Free State.

According to ADAC, the A7 between Würzburg and Ulm and the A3 between Würzburg and Nuremberg, especially at the construction sites, are likely to be the main congestion areas in Lower Franconia. Further south, the A6 near Nuremberg and the motorways 8, 9, 95 and 99 in the greater Munich area are added.

How to avoid traffic jams

In order to avoid traffic jams, the ADAC advises travelers who are traveling abroad to switch to a travel day during the week, such as Tuesday or Wednesday. “Saturday is not recommended as a day of travel,” said the automobile club. Day trippers are advised to either start early in the morning or not until noon.
