The ice hockey community is in shock
Doctors gave everything for five days to save his life, but in the end they were simply powerless: An 18-year-old junior player from ice hockey second division Löwen Frankfurt died of serious injuries after a tough duel. The club has now announced this.
It’s the worst for his family
Niclas Kaus fell into the gang in a youth game on December 18, and fell so unhappy that he suffered severe head injuries and had to undergo emergency surgery in a clinic. Medics fought for the young man, exhausting all means at their disposal, but the worst came to an end. Kaus died on Wednesday.
The Lions published an emotional message on their homepage on Thursday: “After long and intensive efforts by the doctors and carers in the last few days, the news puts us in a state of shock and deep sadness,” said Patrick Steingraf, Director of Sport for the Lions Youngsters , quoted: “For the family, after days of hope and fear, this is the worst thing that can be imagined.”
Brother had to witness misfortune first hand
Steingraf continues: “The sporting business is suspended until further notice, as it should be in this situation.” Particularly tragic: Niclas’ brother also runs for the U20 of the club and had to see the misfortune.
The case caused great consternation in the ice hockey scene. The top of the German Ice Hockey Federation and national coach Toni Söderholm as well as many professionals and clubs in the German Ice Hockey League quickly expressed their condolences on social media.
