“This situation is worrisome given the lag of people in going to get vaccinated, winter is already entering and our country still has the vaccine against seasonal influenza. Vaccines protect us from getting seriously ill or from complications that require hospitalization due to respiratory viruses that predominate in the rainy season,” said Xiomara Badilla, head of the Fund’s Epidemiological Surveillance Subarea.

Coverage in the child population only reaches 22.1%, this because of the 801 thousand vaccines applied, in the child population older than six months and less than seven years, only 104 thousand doses have been placed.

Regarding the population between 7 and 57 years of age, with the presence of some chronic disease, 320,000 people already have the vaccine. Of this group, those who have a respiratory disease, some degree of obesity, heart disease and diabetics head the list.

In the group of adults aged 58 and over, with or without risk factors, 312,000 doses have been placed for only 35.1% coverage.

For the 2023 vaccination day, the Fund acquired 1.5 million vaccines and people included in the risk groups can go to any institution’s health establishment, regardless of their place of residence, as long as there are vaccines available. The campaign will remain active until the available doses are exhausted.
