Low Turnout and Procrastination: Why Young People Avoid HPV Vaccination

The low turnout is probably related to the procrastination of young people. “In addition, the urgency of this vaccination does not seem to be fully understood,” said GGD spokesperson Lily Benjamin.

Enough enthusiasm

There appears to be enough enthusiasm for the shot. During the KEI week, enough young people were willing to get vaccinated at the information stand of the GGD.

HPV vaccination

The HPV vaccination protects young people against various types of cancer. Two injections are needed for the best protection and they must be given six months apart. The vaccination was actually free until the end of 2023, but that has now been extended to June 2024. The GGD wants to reach more young people in this way.
