Early detection is the key to cervical cancer prevention

Nakita.id – Cervical cancer is one of the diseases that can attack women of all ages and ranks second as the type of cancer that most affects women in Indonesia.

Even though it is a deadly type of cancer, the risk can be prevented by personalized early screening supported by innovations in quality cervical cancer screening.

Unfortunately, people still encounter obstacles in carrying out early detection of cervical cancer risk, especially in low and middle economic countries.

For this reason, this topic became the main discussion in the media session entitled “Early Detection Innovations to Increase the Coverage of Cervical Cancer Screening in Indonesia” which was held by Roche Indonesia, on Thursday (19/5/2022).

The event was attended by Ahmed Hassan as Director, Country Manager Diagnostics, Roche
Indonesia.

Ahmed had explained that almost part of the global community had obstacles to be able to carry out routine health checks.

Barriers to early cervical cancer screening are caused by many factors, such as the lack of information, the perceived high cost, and the public’s fear of being ostracized if the test results are positive.

In fact, early screening can increase life expectancy for cervical cancer owners and prevent more dangerous symptoms.

“According to our global survey, 60 percent of the global community still faces barriers to
carry out regular health checks for various reasons such as lack of information, cost factors, to fear of positive test results. These become obstacles in early detection of a disease. In late detection of cervical cancer, the life expectancy of cervical cancer patients can drop to less than 20 percent. Therefore, wider access to innovative cervical cancer detection and treatment is key in improving the quality of women’s health,” said Ahmed Hassan.
