Low Routine Immunization Coverage Due to Several Obstacles

JAKARTA, investor.id – Acting Director General of Prevention, Eradication of Infectious Diseases and Health (P2P) of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) Maxi Rein Rondonuwu said the low coverage of routine immunization was due to several obstacles in the field such as administrative problems in procurement.

“Of course there must be a solution for planning the right procurement method,” he said at the Public Hearing Meeting (RDPU) with Commission IX of the DPR at the DPR Building, Jakarta, Monday (22/11/2021).

Maxi also added another constraint related to distribution and storage. In this case, distribution to regencies/cities is constrained by financing because there are regions that do not allocate their budgets as well as obstacles to full vaccine storage warehouses because it is in conjunction with the Covid-19 vaccine.

Therefore, Maxi said to overcome this problem, in the future routine vaccine collection will be carried out together with the Covid-19 vaccine and routine immunizations will be increased so that vaccines do not accumulate in warehouses.

“If right now it is a priority (the Covid-19 vaccine, then it is more concentrated on the Covid-19 vaccination,” he said.

Furthermore, another obstacle, continued Maxi, was because many health workers (nakes) handled the Covid-19 pandemic and many posyandu during the emergency PPKM period were closed. Meanwhile, Indonesia has many hard-to-reach areas.

For this reason, as a solution, Maxi said, routine immunizations in the future will be carried out by health workers at puskesmas while vaccinations for Covid-19 will be assisted by health workers from the private sector as well as the TNI and Polri.

In addition, with the opening of the posyandu, routine immunization will be reactivated and the puskesmas will monitor the recording of health reports.

“We know that there have been no reports real time. This is currently being prepared by the Ministry of Health for a report real time such as the implementation of the Covid-19 vaccination,” he said.
