For the Fulgencio Severino cardiologist, one of the most negative impacts of the quality of care of patients with cardiovascular diseases is the restrictions on the coverage of last generation drugs that guarantee more effective controls.
He said that in the country the best treatments for the control of patients with these diseases are not available in social security coverage, “not because they exist but because of the resistance of the system to guarantee them because the cost is put forward, which it is giving a very bad quality of care ”.
Hence the importance, says the head of the Cardiology service of the Salvador B. Gautier hospital, of claiming the elimination of the coverage list that has the catalog of Family Health Insurance (SFS), because in medicine every day They have new treatments.
“The medicine is working in such a way that a doctor who is not updated, in three years would be giving the worst treatments,” said Severino.

Highlighting the high incidence of these diseases, the specialist noted that of 67 thousand deaths that the country recorded during 2017, about 23,900 were due to cardiovascular diseases, equivalent to 35.77 percent of all deaths, and 13,900 due to ischemic heart disease, for 20 percent of the overall total deaths and 55 percent of cardiovascular deaths.
He said that a study conducted with cases of sudden deaths undergoing autopsies at the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) from 2012 to 2018 determined that 60 percent were due to ischemic heart disease, in those under 30 years of age it is mostly caused by arrhythmias
