The provincial reference for epidemiological surveillance, Verónica Di Giovanni, expressed her concern about the lack of turnout of the population to complete the Covid vaccination reinforcements. This comes to the fore that in the last month there was an increase in the Covid positivity rate both nationally and at the provincial level.
“What worries us the most is that there is very low coverage with up-to-date reinforcements on the issue of Covid vaccination,” Di Giovanni told El Esquiú Play, adding that “Although most of the population of Catamarca , I would say 98%, has complied with the primary initial scheme, it has been a long time since people have had the booster ”.
In this framework, he explained that citizens must have at least the primary Covid vaccination scheme, which is the first and second dose. “I have to check on my vaccination card when the last reinforcement I had was done. If the last booster was six months or more ago I should get a booster. Once that reinforcement has been carried out if I am a person with risk factors or that I am over 60 years of age. If I don’t enter these groups I have to do it once a year”.
Likewise, the professional recalled that people can access the vaccine or information in all health centers in the Province, since “all posts have vaccinations, not only in the Central Vaccination Center or in the Children’s Hospital.”
On the other hand, the official acknowledged that “the perception of risk regarding the Covid issue was somewhat lost. We have to take into account that we have a population with partial immunity, but immunity at last and that this has retrograde thanks to the vaccine. If that is lost, we do not know what can happen later, that is why the insistence on keeping the vaccination for Covid up to date ”.
