Die queere Coming-of-Age-Serie “Love, Victor” has quickly become a favorite with critics. In the coming month, the second season will be released, which will also be available promptly in Germany through Star on Disney + on June 18 – just one week after the release in the USA on the streaming service Hulu. A trailer for the new episodes has now been made available in advance:

The series is a spin-off from the successful film “Love, Simon” by Greg Berlanti. Michael Cimino plays the title role of Victor, who, as a new high school student, has to face the usual challenges of an adolescent. He comes into contact with Simon (Nick Robinson), who has become a little celebrity, because he went through something similar to Victor: He is gay, but has not yet come out – also for fear of the reaction of his new environment at Creekwood High school where his family just moved.

After some trials and tribulations, at the end of the first season there was a kiss with his crush Benji and Victor’s coming out. In the second season, Victor now has to deal with his changed situation – with his family, who found out about his coming out, with his ex-girlfriend Mia, whose heart is broken, and with the difficulties of being an openly gay top athlete.

“Love, Victor” has a somewhat curious development history behind it: Originally the series was developed for the “family-friendly” provider Disney +, but due to issues such as sex, alcohol and adultery in the USA, the adult-oriented service Hulu was ultimately used. In Germany and in other countries where Hulu does not exist as a provider, “Love, Victor” came to Disney + via the “detour” star. Since the second season was now produced directly for Hulu, this should be a lot freer and bolder in terms of content.

“Love, Victor” is produced by the two authors and showrunners Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker, who also wrote the script for the film “Love, Simon”. Ana Ortiz, James Martinez, Isabella Ferreira, Mateo Fernandez, Rachel Hilson, Bebe Wood, George Sear, Anthony Turpel and Mason Gooding also star in other leading roles.
