CRIME ⋅ A 33-year-old suspected love fraudster has been arrested in Zurich. According to the police, there is a suspicion that the Romanian faked love for a 78-year-old senior and defrauded him of around 160,000 francs with this approach.
The police noticed an older man and a younger woman in Zurich main station on Wednesday afternoon, wrote the Zurich canton police in a message on Saturday. Because of this situation, they assumed that the man was the victim of a trick theft, so they checked both people. It turned out that the 33-year-old was a suspected love cheater – the woman was arrested.
There is a suspicion that the Romanian played love for the 78-year-old and cheated on him with various stories of around 160,000 francs. The police were able to secure over 30,000 francs from the woman. At the request of the public prosecutor’s office, the compulsory measures court ordered pre-trial detention.
In the announcement, the Zurich canton police warned of love fraud using the Internet scam “Romance Scam”. This is a modern version of the marriage fraud. Accordingly, the fraudster makes contact with the victim via the Internet. After a short time it is ensnared with oaths of love until the person concerned develops feelings of love, but requests for financial support soon followed.
The canton police therefore recommend that you be careful with contact requests from people you do not know. When expressing love within a very short time, distrust is the order of the day, especially if “the new love” demands larger amounts of money or valuables. (sda)
