Dan McCafferty, the former lead singer of the Scottish rock group Nazareth, died on Tuesday at the age of 76. This was announced by Pete Agnew, the band’s bassist.
“This is the saddest announcement I’ve ever had to make,” Agnew wrote on social media. “Dan’s family has lost a wonderfully loving husband and father. I lost my best friend and the world has lost one of the greatest singers that ever lived.”
McCafferty was the Nazareth singer from 1968 to 2013. He then retired for health reasons. Nazareth had its greatest successes in the 1970s.
With their version of the old Everly Brothers song Love Hurts the group scored a number 1 in the Netherlands and a number of other countries in 1976.
