Love Actually actress finds the Christmas classic terrifying

Despite Lulu’s major role as Daisy Love Actually plays, she is now, so many years later, unhappy about the film. In the podcast Almost Famous with Barnaby Slater she makes mincemeat of the film. “I don’t regret it (that I played in the movie, ed.). But to put it mildly, I think it’s a shit movie. The movie is very outdated.”

By this she refers to the roles that the women play Love Actually play. “All the women in the movie are kind of passive objects. I’m glad people like the movie, you know. But then you have a bad taste”, she jokes.

For whom Love Actually has not seen at least once in the past 17 years: in the film you as a viewer follow different storylines. For example, the Prime Minister picks up on a woman from his staff, Daisy’s father flirts with the secretary behind his wife’s back and there is also a complicated love relationship between a couple and their best friend. The intimidation in the workplace was portrayed as romantic at the time, but can now count on a lot of criticism.

According to Lulu, roles these women play in the film are no longer of this time, but she is definitely not trying to throw script writer Richard Curtis in front of the bus. “He wrote in the context of the time. I mean it was 2003.”
