Louisa: ‘Rowan wants to call me for the poo diapers’ | Stories behind the news

“I have been with Rowan for 22 years. We have a son together, his name is Mikai and he is four years old. In daily life I am mainly busy with my work, taking care of our son and the household. I make a lot of television, together with Rowan, like the programs Louisa & Rowan: the Gooisch in First Aid When Brushing. That is what we both earn a living from.

In addition, I also occasionally do presentation work, I perform as a singer and I also do influencer work on social media. In total I earn a little more than my husband, but I don’t think this is a problem at all. We also have a joint account from which we pay everything. What is mine is his.”

Own tasks

“Rowan and I have divided the tasks as fairly as possible so that we both contribute equally to the household and the care of our child. We agreed that I always keep the downstairs tidy and clean and that he always does the upstairs. This also means that everything that happens on the ground floor is part of my duties.

I cook and in the morning stand on the side of the road in my dressing gown to take out the garbage. Rowan then makes the beds again and does the laundry. That way we both have our own tasks and we divided it fairly.”

“When I get up in the morning, Rowan usually sleeps through the night. I’ll be the one who makes the sandwiches and takes the little one to school. In addition, Rowan also doesn’t like changing Mikai’s nappies, so he still wants to call me for that, haha. Then I do it with all my love. I really think the title mother is the most beautiful title there is and I am very proud of it. That’s why I don’t mind taking on the tasks around our child a little more often.

We actually clean our house almost every day. I am of gypsy descent and have learned from home that it is nice to always have your house clean and tidy. In addition, we also have a dog and three cats, so our house also needs a makeover more often than average. Plus, if I don’t clean, I’m stressed! I find it soothing to clean and I like that the house is always neat and tidy, especially before I go out. That brings some peace of mind.”

Culture

“I am really lucky to have a husband who just helps me with the housework and with our child. That is not the case everywhere. In the environment in which I grew up, it is more normal for the woman to do the housework, take care of the child and ensure that the food is put on the table, while the man works. Fortunately, we don’t feel the urge to stick to this standard and we are both very satisfied with how we have arranged things together. I really couldn’t do without Rowan!”
