Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital: Staffing difficulties in the oncology department

In a press release, the management of the Louis-Constant Fleming hospital indicates that the day hospital center (HDJ), which was opened in November 2021, is experiencing exceptional staffing difficulties, but which nevertheless remains temporary.

Officially opened on Monday November 21, 2021, the URCC (Centralized Cytotoxic Reconstruction Unit) received its first patients on Wednesday November 24, 2021 in day hospitalization. The opening of this service allowed patients from Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy to follow their treatment at the Louis-Constant Fleming hospital center (LCF). This service was placed under the responsibility of Doctor Marie Laruelle-Hénaux, hospital practitioner oncologist, and Doctor Marie-Agnès Opsomer, head of the pharmacy department.
According to the management of the LCF hospital, this “exceptional personnel difficulty remains temporary. We are actively working to return to the normal operating circuit”.
And to specify that in the meantime, “everything is being done for the continuity of service and no patient will be left without a solution; the 3 regional reference centers of Guadeloupe are activated”. The three reference centers are the University Hospital Center (CHU), the Basse-Terre Hospital Center (CHBT) and the Eaux Claires clinic.
The hospital clarified that Doctor Marie Laruelle-Hénaux is about to leave, officially for health reasons, while some information indicates that her departure would take place for personal reasons. Still, patients will now, and again, have to fly to get treatment in Guadeloupe…
The medical and administrative teams are mobilized for any question, in particular coordination and logistics, specifies the management of the hospital. The usual oncology HDJ team is available during the week for any coordination questions, appointments and information on the number 0590 52 26 18.
