Loud applause in Today Inside studio for ‘comeback’ Johan Derksen: ‘Already historic day’

“It is already a historic day, because he is back. He is back, yes yes,” said presenter Wilfred Genee about Johan’s return to the program. “The mood is good of course.”

Then the audience erupts in applause. “I think it could have been a bit more enthusiastic. It’s just a gesture,” jokes Johan after the applause.

“I had to come back here, because I saw you bumbling two evenings, I think: I have to save the show,” jokes Johan, who was absent for two days, to Wilfred. “I was really sick,” he says.

In his own words, Johan has ‘a terrible dislike’ of the applause. “If only people knew,” he says. “It had been a long time since I really had the flu. I just lay unconscious in bed for four days. This morning I got out of bed and thought: I’m fine again.”

Johan was not present last Thursday and Friday Inside today because he was sick. He suffered from flu symptoms and was therefore not featured in the program. For the analyst, it is rare that he was not there. Only in 2019 did he call in sick after falling down the stairs and suffering a concussion and broken arm. A week later he was back again.
