Lotus drastically changes course: the suv craze has also hit the British

Nothing to do, the Lotus house falls into the most widespread market dynamics in the world and adapts in turn. Here’s what the legendary British brand we all love announced a few hours ago.

It is the year of change for Lotus, the legendary UK house specializing in sports cars since the distant 50s which intends to carry out another change of course. The news has arrived in these hours and will surely have left the historical fans of the British brand speechless, whether it is positive or negative.

New Lotus in sight? (Instagram)

Already some time ago the brand had made a historic announcement, officially explaining to fans that it will never be there again another Lotus with combustion engine. The British brand has specified that the transition to electric is the brand’s priority and that all the next Lotus that will leave the British factory will be strictly green.

But perhaps this announcement, which is perfectly in line with what the main rivals of the house are doing – Aston Martin excluded – is less shocking than the one called Eletre. Yes, the house announced a new car to be included shortly in its price list available to customers but it is not a beautiful spider or a lively two-seater electric coupe …

The mania for “mass”

Lotus too gives in to the car “bodybuilding” craze that requires ever bigger cars: after Smart, MG and Lancia, Lotus has officially announced his first crossover ever. Hurray? The vehicle, over 5 meters long, is also the first five-door car ever produced by the British house. We tell you directly, we would have preferred a Shooting Brake rather.

The car will be – quoting the CEOs of the brand – the manifesto of all the Lotus of the future. Already in the crossover line, however, elements of the old Emira are evident, the last combustion engine car ever built by Lotus and the electric Evija. Yes, it will be totally green our Eletre too with an engine of at least 600 horsepower capable of guaranteeing about 600 kilometers of autonomy.

The car should arrive on the market very soon, by 2023 for USA, Europe and China according to the official announcement of the brand. What else to say? The fashion of SUVs, now also produced by houses that had never built this type of vehicle, has tired us a bit and if the Eletre is really the manifesto of the future of Lotus, we hope that it will remain quite unique. The risk is that with all this competition, the tendency to buy SUVs may run out sooner than we think.
