(GD): Father in his 60s and daughter in her 20s had to pawn bottles and shop for dinner this Wednesday afternoon. After the bottles were counted, the sum was NOK 48, which they chose to bet on the Red Cross pawn lottery.
– It said “congratulations” on the card, with three exclamation marks on the back, so we realized we had won, but didn’t see how big it was right away. Then we read all the zeros and realized we had won a million crowns. Then we started laughing and crying at each other. Then we ran to the car and couldn’t buy anything, says her daughter.
The winners wish to remain anonymous, but tell Pantelotteriet that it is absurd to win so much money.
– We will split the million among all family members and most of it will go to the renovation of our cabin. We put it off because it was so expensive. Now we have to fix everything there, as well as buy a boat. Then we can enjoy the prize, the whole family. So we feel very lucky and grateful, she says.
The family also plans to donate a portion of the winnings to a good cause.
The Pant Lottery has become one of the Red Cross’s most important sources of income and will receive NOK 120 million this year.
– These are important funds that we use for good humanitarian purposes throughout the district. We are in constant need of both rescue equipment and training for volunteers. This means we can have good preparation, lots of activities and offers assistance for those who need it, says Hanne-Gunn Røraas, director general of the Red Cross Inland.
At Rema 1000 Fåberggata, the mood is good as they learn about the prize.
– It’s very funny that someone wins right in our shop, and then right before Christmas. So congratulations to the winner. This has to be the Christmas present of all time. Pantelotteriet’s money goes to a good cause, so it’s even more fun when you win, says trader Stian Sommerseth.
