Luxury watches, swanky carts and down jackets – Kürsat Yildirim, aka Chico, went on a really big shopping spree after winning the lottery last November. The man from Dortmund didn’t miss an opportunity to tell everyone about his new wealth.
Whether newspaper, television or Instagram – all of Germany could watch how the newly crowned lottery millionaire throws his money around. Within a short time, Chico made it to fame – but is the magic over now?

Lotto-Chico loses important capital
Opinions differed on his spending spree after winning the lottery jackpot. While some turned green with envy, many treated the former crane driver to his new wealth. For many it was clear: sooner or later, the boy from Dortmund’s northern part of the city would spend his money completely.
But Chico has been following a strict financial plan for several weeks. And among other things, it provides for converting its enormous reach in social media into fresh money. He recently launched a new format on YouTube, where his fans can make requests from him (more here). But the action initially seems to bear little fruit. Because suddenly the fans are running away from Chico!
Chico suddenly no longer a millionaire
So the lottery king is suddenly no longer a millionaire – at least on Instagram. In the spring, the Dortmunder had cracked the one million follower mark on the platform. But now interest in Chico and his lifestyle seems to be waning. At the end of April there were suddenly only 960,000 followers. If things continue at this pace, the new business model of the lottery king threatens to miss its target.

But of course its range is still impressive. Especially since Tiktok has 168,000 followers. And his new format is also encouraging: 5,500 subscribers have already signed up on his new YouTube channel. It remains to be seen what actions the lottery millionaire will soon surprise his fans with.
>> Editor’s note <<
Gambling can be addictive. When gambling behavior gets out of control and becomes a substitute for other personal problems, it can develop into pathological behavior and even into gambling addiction. It is then no longer just about spontaneous leisure time fun, but the game then suddenly takes on questionable functions: avoiding fear, panic, depression and other negative feelings or avoiding problems.
Anyone who thinks they are addicted to gambling or know someone who might be addicted to gambling can get help. For this there is the free and anonymous hotline 0800/1372700. More information on bzga
