A holiday in paradise Curacao should be carefree. But that was beyond some Instagram users. Sexologist Lotte Vanwezemael had to deal with a lot of criticism on her bikini photos on the platform, and she didn’t just let that pass by.

The sexologist, known for her participation in The smartest person in the world and its expertise in Blindly married, was on vacation in Curacao – and of course that includes some nice pictures by the ocean and the pool. But among the positive reactions, there were also some negative comments. For example, someone asked whether the sexologist was trying to hide her incipient pregnancy belly. Still others talked about her visible ‘rolls of fat’ and ‘that she is getting fat’.
In her Stories, the sexologist herself added the finishing touches. She emphasized that she has finally learned to love her body. “When I look in the mirror, I do see my own body. My ‘rolls of fat’, my scars, my double chin, my bruises, my pits in my legs, my welts (which I call ‘rivers’ by the way). I finally learned to love that body. Because that’s me. It’s my body and that makes me me.”
“You don’t have to remind me of what my body looks like,” she continued. “To all those ‘flaws’ I have according to society. And if you do it anyway: I don’t care. But someone else might. Someone else may still be struggling to love their body. So give that person the time to do that. And put your energy into things that matter. Namely: your own life. Lots of (self) love.”
