Lotte Kopecky will be on the start list of the Giro d’Italia Women. Danny Stam, sporting director at SD Worx-Protime, said this in an interview with HLN. “Lotte will ride the Giro, an ideal race to score and improve stage wins yourself.”
Last year it was only the Tour de France. This year it will certainly be the Giro and the Tour de France could well be added. Kopecky prefers “not to do an altitude internship,” says Stam. “We are trying to help her grow to her top level through stage races.”
Kopecky already won in the Giro in 2020. In her other two participations in 2019 & 2022, the Belgian went home empty-handed. Last year she preferred the Tour de France, which is not yet marked on the calendar. Now she wants to use the Italian Tour to get her top-level form ahead of the Olympics.
“We will stay on the lowlands,” is what the SD Worx-Protime camp says. The Olympic time trial in Paris takes place thirteen days after the Giro Donna. Then it will become clear whether Kopecky and co’s choice will pay off.
