A large fire rages in a mountain of scrap waste in the Botlek area in Rotterdam. So much smoke is released that the fire brigade has sent an NL-Alert.
The fire rages at a waste processing company on Quebecweg and the smoke has moved towards Vlaardingen and Schiedam. Smokers are advised to close windows and doors and turn off the ventilation. The smell of fire will linger for several hours, the emergency services report.
The NL-Alert was sent after midnight; on social media it can be seen that many people were startled by the warning.
