After the 0-1 defeat in the top game against Bayern Munich, BVB has to cut sail in this year’s title race as well. Immediately after the game was kicked off, various German media speculated again about an early departure from Lucien Favres from Dortmund.

“Is Favre announcing his farewell to BVB on TV?” Headlines the German “Bild” late Tuesday evening. What is meant is an interview that the Swiss coach gives shortly after the 0-1 defeat against Bayern Munich to the German pay broadcaster “Sky”. When he is faced with the accusation that he cannot win a title with BVB, the 62-year-old replies: “I’ll be talking about it in a few weeks.”

These words are enough for Sky expert Lothar Matthäus to prophesy Favre’s departure in the studio. «I would have such a clear answer from Lucien Favre not expected. After the answer I immediately had in my head that he would give up at the end of the season and take over Niko Kovac Borussia Dortmund. »

Criticism of the lineup

Matthäus also criticized the Swiss for his lineup in the top game against the master from Munich. «For me, Favre coached himself. I would have put it differently, »analyzes the 59-year-old. “If Sancho can play in the second half, he can play from the start and be replaced in the 60th minute. I cannot understand the list. »

Favre had brought on Sancho as a substitute for Julian Brandt. The young Englishman remained terribly pale for the second 45 minutes, as he did in the game against Wolfsburg. The neutral observer does not understand why he would have performed better in the first half. The 20-year-old has obviously lacked physical fitness and liveliness since the Corona break – something that can be blamed on the player himself and not his trainer.

Favre’s contract in Dortmund was extended early last summer until June 2021. The German tabloid press, however, no longer sees him as the right candidate for the black and yellow coach chair.

But the speculations do not come out of nowhere. After the end in the Cup and the Champions League, the season for BVB after the defeat against Bayern is almost over. Never before in the Bundesliga has a team surrendered a seven-point advantage six games before the end. Whether the Favre could actually cost his job will be seen in the next few weeks.
