“After 5 years of reflection, adjustments, adaptations, the Gourdon hospital renovation project is ready” assures Max-Olivier Bariot, director of the Jean Coulon de Gourdon hospital center. He presented it to the director of the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Occitanie Pierre Ricordeau, as well as to local elected officials and hospital health managers last Thursday, January 27, during a visit linked to the Ségur de la santé (see also page 3).
This rehabilitation of the hospital brings together 4 distinct projects: the creation of a shared kitchen with the Town Hall for the hospital, the schools and the senior residence; the project to install an MRI; and two real estate projects – the construction of the new nursing home and the restructuring of the hospital’s follow-up care and rehabilitation department, both of which benefit from Ségur de la santé funding.
The area of attractiveness of Gourdon Hospital covers Bouriane but also part of the Dordogne department and concerns a population of around 50,000 inhabitants (according to the estimates of elected officials), rural in nature and above all aging. The Gourdon hospital thus leads the sector for the elderly in the sector, from Cauvaldor to the community of communes of Cazals-Salviac.
After several improvements over the years (creation of outpatient surgery, pioneer in telemedicine in Ehpad more than 10 years ago, absorption of the liberal radiology practice, installation of the dental chair for specific public), the hospital however requires a reorganization and adaptation to current needs through rehabilitation.
New nursing home
The first real estate project to come out of the ground will be that of the new nursing home, built on land adjacent to the hospital. Today, it is the largest in the Lot with 192 places (permanent and temporary accommodation), divided into three buildings on two sites. The idea is the construction of a new building bringing everyone together, which will not only bring it up to standard but also bring the possibility of reducing the structural deficit of the current Ehpad.
The objective is to bring together all the residents on the same site, to humanize and bring them up to standard with individual bathrooms or even home automation means. The idea is also to adapt to the context of home care with the creation of a center of activities and adapted care (PASA) for residents with a neurodegenerative disease with reception only day or at night to relieve caregivers. 12 places will thus be transformed into day care, and some nursing home beds will be transformed into long-term care units.
In addition, the premises will be adaptable in order to maintain the possibility of creating a Reinforced Hospitalization Unit (UHR) which could make it possible to provide appropriate support for residents suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias, presenting with severe behavior.
This new Ehpad will want to be open to the outside world with the aim of preventing loss of autonomy, with a reception and assistance point for carers, and proximity to a Third Place whose project is to welcome a crèche, a café-restaurant, various cultural and sports associations. A garden shared with the Ehpad will accentuate this inclusion in the city and nearby will be installed the MJC and inclusive housing.
The entire project is thus part of a municipal desire to revitalize a global district of the municipality of Gourdon.
A new SSR service
The other real estate project is that of the Continuing Care and Rehabilitation Service (SSR). This time, the objective is to modernize the reception with the replacement of double rooms by single rooms with bathroom, to install them near the technical platform, to group together in one place the consultation platform with a single reception and to allow the premises to be adapted according to changing needs.
The architectural firm Coco architecture in Cénac in the Dordogne was chosen to carry out this second project, while the competition to find the architect of the new retirement home will be launched next spring.
The overall cost of these real estate projects reached 13.7 million euros, including 10 million euros in subsidies, in particular from Ségur de la santé.
Work on the new Ehpad will begin in 2023 for an opening expected in 2025. Regarding the new SSR service, it will be done next and should arrive in 2027.
