A case dengue was diagnosed in a person returning from overseas and having stayed in the municipality of Fargues-sur-Ourbise.

Following this case, an investigation was carried out by the company Altopictus on behalf ofRegional Health Agency (ARS). This investigation demonstrated the presence of tiger mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus) potentially vectors of this disease in the municipalities where the survey was conducted. Indeed, if the tiger mosquito bites a sick person, it can become a carrier of the virus and transmit it to other people by bite.

An upcoming mosquito control operation

A mosquito control operation will be carried out in the neighborhood of the affected person’s place of residence. “The objective is to eliminate roosts and adult mosquitoes, to avoid any risk of the virus spreading and to protect the population”, indicates the ARS. “Only a small area around the place of residence needs to be treated since the tiger mosquito lives within a radius of 150 meters. The persons concerned have received in their letter boxes all the useful information relating to this processing “, says the ARS.

The treatment of the area will take place on the night of August 3 to 4, 2020.
