It is a great recognition for the” Exercise and sports medicine unit and for the Cahors hospital in the Lot in general.
He was Labeled Maison Sport-Santé by the Ministries of Solidarity and Health, and Sport in February 2020. But it was only 18 months later, this Friday, June 18, 2021 that this Sport-Health house could officially be inaugurated, health crisis requires. It is now one of the 138 Sport-Santé houses in France, structures that provide medical support for sports.
A Sports Medicine Unit launched in 2017
It is Professor Yves Abbiteboul, sports doctor within the‘Unit of Exercise and Sports Medicine, which had the idea of submitting an application, in collaboration with the City of Cahors and the Lot Olympic and Sports Committee.
This exercise and sports medicine unit was created in 2017 at the Cahors hospital, also a year in which the legal texts recognized that physical activity was a full-fledged treatment for chronic pathologies (and no longer just in preventive medicine). This unit is the only one in Occitania (outside the CHU) to practice this formalized physical activity.
Thus, a patient suffering from a chronic disease benefits from several physical activity sessions supervised by healthcare professionals in therapeutic support, before continuing on his own, while still benefiting from a follow-up by the Maison Sport-Santé.
Soon in Figeac?
The Cahors hospital center thus becomes the only Sport-Health Center in the Lot department, and it will help guide patients in resuming sports practice. Note that Figeac hospital, which has also opened a sports medicine service, will also apply to become Maison Sport-Santé in the coming months.
