A large number of Bronze Age artifacts were discovered in a carrot field in a village in Switzerland. It is believed to be an accessory worn by women about 3,500 years ago, and is attracting attention as it was discovered with its shape and pattern relatively intact.

According to foreign media such as CBS on the 20th (local time), Bronze Age relics and the teeth of various animals were discovered in a farmland in a village about 80km northeast of Zurich, Switzerland. The excavation was carried out by amateur archaeologist Franz Zahn, who discovered a bronze disk while wandering through a freshly harvested carrot field with a metal detector.

As a result of local authorities conducting additional investigations of the surrounding area, various other artifacts were discovered, including rings, spiral-shaped ornaments made of gold, and about 100 amber beads. These included bronze arrowheads, bear teeth, fossilized shark teeth, and small ammonites.

Experts estimated that these artifacts were necklaces and large and small jewelry used during the Middle Bronze Age around 1500 BC. It could be a place where a kind of ‘jewel box’ containing various treasures and souvenirs was buried. He analyzed, “These artifacts were considered objects with protective or healing effects and may have been used as talismans.”

The discovered artifacts will be displayed at the Archaeological Museum in Frauenfeld, northern Switzerland. Restoration work is currently underway.
