Lost Gustav Klimt Painting ‘Portrait of Fräulein Lieser’ Found After Almost 100 Years, to Be Auctioned for Over 50 Million Euros

The painting “Portrait of Fräulein Lieser” by the legendary artist Gustav Klimt was discovered in Vienna. This work of art was considered lost for almost a century and was last seen in public in 1925. The painting was discovered on the wall of a family villa near Vienna in the private collection of an Austrian citizen.

Writes about this Sky News.

“Portrait of Fräulein Lieser” is one of the last works of Gustav Klimt, and until this moment its existence was known only from black and white photography. The work belonged to the Lieser family, wealthy Jewish industrialists in Vienna.

The Viennese auction house Im Kinsky valued the painting at more than 50 million euros. This restoration is considered sensational given the rarity, artistic significance and high value of Klimt’s work. The painting will go up for auction on April 24, after which it is scheduled to be exhibited in museums and galleries around the world.

Earlier, Cursor wrote that a previously unknown painting by Raphael was found in Italy. Italian experts found a painting in one of the private collections that apparently belongs to the Italian artist, representative of the Umbrian Renaissance school of painting, Raphael Santi.

We also reported that the art world was shocked by a 150-year-old painting depicting a girl allegedly holding a smartphone. The picture first attracted the attention of users back in 2017. They joked that the girl was ignoring the guy because she was probably on social media.
