Chinese archaeologists have discovered the ruins of a lost city at the Zhaigou excavation site in northern Shaanxi province. Previously, in this area, people regularly found mysterious artifacts, the origin of which scientists could not explain.
This is reported livescience.
The Bronze Age settlement is spread over 11 hills and covers an area of more than 3 square kilometers. Many features of its construction indicate that it was a large trading center, perhaps even a capital.
Relics from the excavation site are over 3,000 years old. This means that they were created during the Shang Dynasty, which ruled from about 1554 to 1046 BC. Among the many artifacts found were bronze drinking vessels, painted pottery, turquoise-inlaid jewelry, several chariots, and more – more than 200 items.
Various relics from the 1940s have also been found by the inhabitants of the province. Previously, scientists did not understand where they come from, but now the answer is the household items of the inhabitants of the ancient city.
Last year we also discovered several tombs and large-scale structures in the area. This time we were more fortunate, and we opened a full settlement.
We are talking about nine tombs in Zhaigou, which were excavated in 2022. Seven of them have passages. This indicates that they belonged to local leaders.
The passages in the tombs symbolize the high social status of the people buried in them.
Craft workshops and pottery kilns have also been found here.
Earlier, Cursor wrote that during excavations in an industrial area in the Netherlands, archaeologists discovered a 4,000-year-old sanctuary.
