Loss in the training match against IFK Gothenburg

Published February 18, 2024 in Dam, News

Despite a lot of ball possession, MFF couldn’t score on IFK Göteborg, who left Limhamn’s IP with the victory. 2–0 was the final result.

Key events

15′ The first danger of the match when an IFK Gothenburg striker forces Julia Cavander into a good save.

23′ MFF has most of the ball, but it is the visitors who score the first goal of the match. A shot just outside the penalty area hits the post and it’s a blue-and-white lead after just over 20 minutes played.

30′ Beatrice Persson is just a sharp goalkeeper save from equalizing.

45′ The referee blows for half time on a rainy Limhamn IP. IFK Gothenburg goes into the break with a lead, 1–0.

46′ The second half has barely started before IFK Göteborg extends its lead to 2–0 after carelessness in the MFF defence.

63′ Linnea Svensson finds Nathalie Hoff Persson with a nice deep ball from the back line, the finish from the full back is saved for the corner.

76′ Close to reduction when Rebecka Holm and Malin Gunnarsson each get a chance, but unfortunately the substitutes do not manage to outwit the away team’s goalkeeper.

90′ MFF plays up during the final stage of the match but does not get a hole in IFK Göteborg. The match ends with a loss.

Kim Björkegren after the match

– We have had the best training week of the year, I would say, but still we came in with too bad of an attitude from the start today. IFK Göteborg wanted much more than us, that was clear. If we had 100 duels out there on the field, I’d say they won 90 of them. They played with a young team with a lot of energy and deserved the win.

– But we must be able to do better, the feeling was that we thought it would resolve itself. But it doesn’t. So I’m disappointed, we’re not going to level up at all today.
