A very bad accident happened, everything was filmed and it’s impossible to forget. What actually happened.
In the last year, on Italian roads, we have had tens of thousands of accidents, at least 2,000 of which unfortunately were fatal. How can such tragedies continue to unfold when automakers invest millions of dollars each year in the safety of the drivers and passengers of their cars? Sometimes, technology is not your friend, as it happens with this brand sometimes.
Road safety
Paradoxically, precisely the existence of road safety measures always stricter and more stringent pay great attention to accidents: if fifty years ago it was “normal” to die in a car accident, today, with super-technological safety belts, protective seats for the little ones, ABS, standard airbags and alarm systems for drivers who fall asleep at the wheel, every death while driving becomes a real media case to understand what went wrong.
In particular in our country and in the USA, where the NHST – road safety agency – has revealed with a survey that driving with a smartphone in hand causes a large part of road accidents – and one wonders if an investigation was really needed to prove something so obvious. The question of how to minimize fatal accidents is pressing and pushes car manufacturers to improve.
State case
Among the brands that are increasingly at the center of the storm when it comes to driving safety is the famous Tesla of entrepreneur Elon Musk, a Californian company that has revolutionized the world of transport with its electric cars. But the Teslas also have another point of interest: the autonomous driving which in many cases has proved to be dangerous, at least according to the Italian and American press.
The last case that took place here and made a lot of news was that of Mr. Roberto, reported by He acted and dating back to the summer of 2021 when a Model 3 reportedly crashed at 80 mph on July 1 when the autopilot kept the car going, ignoring a dead vehicle in the middle of the road. This is not the only case in which Tesla was seen being attacked by critics. And, apparently, it won’t even be the last unfortunately.
From the other side of the world
The latest terrible case, documented by city cameras, took place in China, precisely in Guangdong. Exactly ten days ago, at the time of writing these lines. A 55-year-old man was aboard his Tesla Model Y, one of the SUVs produced and sold worldwide by the American company, and was preparing to make a maneuver to park, when something went terribly wrong, causing a real road tragedy.
The car, as is clear from the images of the numerous cameras present on the road where the accident happened, suddenly accelerated despite the attempts of the driver – a local named Zhan – to dodge traffic and pedestrians. crashing at the end against a Tuk Tuk and spinning on the asphalt until it overwhelmed some passers-by. Balance sheet of the disaster, two dead and three injured.
The driver of the car was injured in the dramatic confrontationtested negative for alcohol: “He said the brake stopped working”says a relative of Zhan, with whom the man allegedly confessed after the accident. If this were true, a dramatic autopilot malfunction could actually have caused the deaths of bystanders and the collision.
In 2021, it also happened in China a similar case but Tesla managed to prove that the woman had lied, intentionally accelerating and causing an accident. Judging by the pictures, things look very different this time around. The brand has not yet commented on the incident.
