Lose Weight, Recognize the Risks of a Carnivorous Diet : Okezone Lifestyle

DIET or adjusting your diet is one way to lose weight. Various methods, one of which carnivore diet which means eating less meat.

This is similar to low-carb diets such as the ketogenic and paleo diets but because it limits most or all sources of carbohydrates, it is much more extreme. Amy Goss, PhD, a registered dietitian and nutrition researcher at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, says the reported benefits of a carnivorous diet are compelling.

However, there is not enough evidence to make hard conclusions about the health outcomes of the diet. However, in a 2021 survey of more than 2,000 people on social media who said they followed a carnivorous diet, few participants reported symptoms of nutritional deficiencies.

According to nutritionists, they recommend a less restrictive diet, such as the DASH or Mediterranean diet, which offers a wider variety of nutrients including fiber, key vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients, found only in plant foods.

“Foods that are high in fiber, high in antioxidants, high in vitamins and minerals tend to be good and reduce a lot of that in a carnivore’s diet,” says Megan Poczekaj, RDN, LD.

“When it comes to lowering carbs and cutting back on processed foods, I have a lot of clients who come back and they say they feel better, but it doesn’t have to be extreme,” says Fran Blackman, a registered dietitian at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
