LOSC Women’s Section Holds Dijon to a Draw in Away Match

Opposed to Dijon for its first away match this season, the women’s section of LOSC pocketed the point of a draw (3-3). She had lost heavily (3-0) against these same Dijonnaises a few weeks earlier in preparation.

Logically beaten on their own lawn against Paris FC (0-4) during the first day of D1 Arkema, the LOSC players showed a certain character on Dijon soil. Outside, they showed a much better, more conquering face. With their foot on the ball, Rachel Saidi’s group showed mastery during the first act, while nevertheless being threatened by the opponent’s rapid transitions. More sharp, while the rhythm of the meeting was monotonous, the locals took advantage of a stopped phase to surprise the Mastiffs. In the pack, Lille are unable to break free and Dijon keeps the ball. After two or three well-felt passes, Abdu is in a good striking position. Her attempt from outside the area, particularly powerful, deceived Elisa Launay, surprised by this cannonball (31′). An achievement synonymous with a start before the physiognomy of the meeting regains its cruising speed, completely linear. It is with this score, and without any real clear opportunity, that the LOSC players return to the locker room.

Back on the pitch at the Stade Gaston Gérard, Rachel Saidi’s players display much better intentions in the game. A new dynamic translated by more vertical races, newfound technicality, and increased aggression. It is with this new face that they gradually gain the upper hand over their opponents of the day, scoring a first goal on the hour mark. Moved to the side, Azzaro manages to get into the area then serve Marjorie Boilesen . The Brazilian finishes at close range with a fine shot which passes between the legs of the local goalkeeper (64′). An achievement which sets the tone and encourages the Mastiffs in this more offensive direction. They thus continued their march forward, managing to create serious clear chances, until Maïté Boucly shook the nets. Right in the heart of the surface, she emerges in the middle to take over a poor Dijon clearance. Her attempt hits the net (75′) for her thirtieth goal with LOSC, her second in the elite of French women’s football. The joy is palpable, but short-lived. About ten minutes later, Rachel Saidi’s players panicked on a high clearance. They are neither able to restart properly nor to free themselves. An action which benefits a counter-edge for Dijon and Wu Chengshu who equalize (86′). Stunned, the LOSC women were stormed and conceded a third goal in stoppage time (90+2). But, while they could have let themselves be defeated, they did not give up and came back to the score via a penalty converted by Julie Rabanne, her 25th achievement with LOSC (90+6′).

It is on this score of parity (3-3) that the two teams part back to back at the final whistle. A frustrating result for the LOSC players, who could have hoped for better given the 90 minutes that had passed and the crazy scenario experienced at the end of the game. It is nevertheless a good point taken away from home, the first of a long season in D1 Arkema for the Mastiffs.
