Today is not just any day. Today is the day we would like to blow out our 55 birthday candles surrounded by all of our listeners, friends and workers. LOS40 turns 55 this July 18 in a bittersweet anniversary just a few days after the tragic loss of our colleague, friend and deputy director Carlos Lorente.
On July 18, 1966, the tune of 40 Main on Radio Madrid of Cadena SER. A space that started in Madrid only in the medium wave and that with the passage of time was gaining popularity among the younger public. Until finally in the 87/88 season the Chain 40.
In these 55 years we have grown, we have evolved and we have learned from our listeners that day after day they have led us to be the most listened to music station in Spain for decades. Whether it was under the name of Chain 40, Chain 40 Principales, Los 40 Principales or LOS40.
Because what is truly important in this more than half a century of traveling together has been our common passion for music: ours and yours. Only thanks to this impulse was it possible to cross the barriers of radio to turn LOS40 into a multimedia brand present on television (40TV and 40 Latino), internet (LOS40.com) and on paper (Magazine 40).
55 years of number 1 in the most important list of our country. It would be impossible to remember them all, but each and every one of them has perfectly fulfilled the mission of moving us, making us dance, filling our summers with memories and even making us cry.
We have enjoyed all of them not only in Spain but also in a dozen countries on the other side of the ‘pond’. Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama … they have spoken for years the language of LOS40, that of the love of music.
But in addition to our American brothers and sisters, the family has grown without stopping thanks to the birth of the new stations LOS40 Classic, LOS40 Dance y LOS40 Urban, and the playlists and podcasts that accompany you anywhere and at the time you choose. So that you are the one who decides when and how you want to enjoy your favorite songs or shows.
We are with you in the 280 characters of Twitter, in your memories of Facebook, and tus stories de Instagram and even thinking about challenges and challenges with which to animate your afternoons of TikTok o de Youtube. An escape route to hard and difficult times that we have had to live because of this pandemic in which we are missing you every day.
At LOS40 Primavera Pop we were able to see the faces of many of our listeners live again and we have the dream, the desire and the hope that it will happen again in LOS40 Music Awards. Our popular ’40 awards’ that were born 15 years ago will embark in 2021 on a new adventure by moving their award ceremony to the third venue in its history.
Because after Madrid and Barcelona LOS40 Music Awards will be held this year from the Balearic Islands. On Friday, November 12, 2021, the Illes Balears Velodrome will host our gala with the best national and international artists of the moment. But that’s not all … During that week there will be ‘secret shows’ on the four islands, as well as parties and events on various stages. We can also enjoy tourist and leisure experiences with the artists and stars of the moment.
They will be the first prizes without our dear Carlos, one of the great names of that night in the last decade. Nothing and no one will be able to fill the void that he has left us and that we will feel especially in the backstage, the carpet and the dressing rooms this year. Our best way to pay tribute to him will be to celebrate the LOS40 Music Awards 2021 with the utmost passion for music. The one that ‘Charlie’ gave off every day and that was part of the 55 years of LOS40.
