This is the short starring the rugby team made up of inmates from the Eldorado prison. It won in the Best “Penitentiary Short” category.
The short film “Los Toros” was awarded at the Daroca festival in Spain, where film experts recognized the moving story of the inmates of the Eldorado prison complex who overcome themselves through rugby.
The short Los Toros is a recognition of the joint work of the Provincial Penitentiary Service and the Tackleando Muros foundation. His objective is based on the search for better sports, educational, work and spiritual opportunities for 8 years now in the Eldorado prison.
The award was received by Mariano Hernando, the Physical Education teacher who brought a project for rugby practice to Penitentiary Unit 3 in 2016. Since the arrival of this sport, the logic changed diametrically among the people deprived of liberty with whom he worked. . Not only in the improvement of behavior, but also individual and collective development within the Unit.
Tackleando Muros was born in 2016, a social reintegration program that has sport as its main tool. Through this initiative, participants are also accompanied with educational and spiritual proposals. This is how the Los Toros rugby team was formed.
Los Toros are recognized because they are the first rugby team made up of people in the context of confinement, which competed in an official tournament endorsed by the Argentine Rugby Union (UAR). In their first participation they reached the final and lost against Carayá in 2022.
