The legendary TV and radio journalist Larry King is dead. He died at the age of 87 in Los Angeles, as his media company Ora Media announced on the online service Twitter on Saturday, without naming a cause of death. According to US media reports, King was ill with Covid-19 and had struggled with various health problems in recent years.
“With deep sadness Ora Media announces the passing of our co-founder and friend Larry King,” wrote the company on the official Kings channel. He died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
King’s former house broadcaster CNN reported on January 2, citing family circles, that it had been in inpatient treatment for more than a week due to Covid-19 disease. King also suffered from diabetes and has had numerous health problems in the past, including multiple strokes and lung cancer.
King hosted the talk show Larry King Live on CNN for 25 years. Large glasses, suspenders and colorful ties were among his trademarks. In 2010, King retired. However, he continued to conduct interviews for his website, and since 2012 he has had shows on the pay channel Ora TV, which he co-founded.
Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the “great professionalism” of the Kings, as Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov said, according to the Ria Novosti news agency. King had interviewed the Kremlin chief several times.
