The 19-year-old center fell unusually against the ramp after coming into contact with Coyotes right winger Christian Fischer. Byfield was unable to put weight on his left leg, and he was escorted out of the ice.
Kings head coach Todd McLellan mentioned after the game that Byfield will undergo further reviews on Wednesday.
Byfield looked certain to pivot the Kings’ fourth line in their opener next week. He spent most of the last season with the Ontario Reign in the American Hockey League and had a six-game assist with the Kings.
