Los Angeles: “Harriet” star Cynthia Erivo releases first album

The British-Nigerian actress and singer Cynthia Erivo (34, “Harriet”, “Widows”) wants to bring out her debut album.

Erivo announced the album “Ch. 1 Vs. 1 ”with twelve songs for mid-September. At the same time, she presented her first single “The Good” on Instagram. In the pop-soul song she sings about the end of a relationship between two black women and about “the good” in their memories.

She sees herself as a storyteller, also in her music, said Erivo according to the Hollywood Reporter in a statement. In doing so, they show a side of themselves that one would not see often.

On New York’s Broadway, the native of London won a Tony trophy for the musical revival “The Color Purple” for best leading actress in 2016. She was also awarded a Grammy and Emmy and was nominated for an Oscar in 2020 for the film “Harriet” for the lead actress and for the song “Stand Up”. In the historical drama she played the black slave Harriet Tubman, who freed herself in 1849 and then helped other slaves escape. In the third season of the US series “Genius”, Erivo last embodied the soul icon Aretha Franklin. (dpa)
