The Oscars will be awarded at the end of April – little is known about the format of the show. The film academy is now advertising with big names.
Almost two weeks before the Oscar gala, the Los Angeles Film Academy announced a “star cast” for the trophy show.
Among other things, the Oscar winners Renée Zellweger, Joaquin Phoenix, Brad Pitt and Laura Dern will participate in the presentation of the 93rd Academy Awards, announced the show producers, including “Traffic” director Steven Soderbergh, on Monday. All four were Oscar winners last year.
Other stars named are Halle Berry, Reese Witherspoon, Angela Bassett, Don Cheadle, Bryan Cranston, Harrison Ford, Regina King, Marlee Matlin, Rita Moreno, Zendaya and “Parasite” director Bong Joon Ho.
For the award gala in the style of a film, they could have won a real star cast, it said in the message. “There is so much electrical energy here that sunglasses might be necessary,” joked the producers. The show is to be staged in the style of a film. “Which stars would you bring in front of the camera?” Reads a promotional video from the academy before the names of the 15 filmmakers are listed. More talents are to follow, it said.
Oscar hosts have been in the limelight for decades. Moderators, comedians or actors like Jimmy Kimmel, Ellen DeGeneres, John Stewart or Billy Crystal usually led live through the show with gags. But in the past two years the “host” was missing, instead dozen of celebrities took turns as presenters on the stage. Among other things, they helped to distribute the trophies.
The show on April 25th is scheduled to take place with this year’s Oscar nominees. In Los Angeles, in addition to the traditional Dolby Theater in Hollywood, the Los Angeles Union Station building is planned as a stage for the first time. Due to Corona requirements and the associated travel difficulties, international locations are also planned from which the price contenders can be connected.
