The Los Angeles Critics Association wanted to join the movement #BlackLivesMatter against racism, and that intensified last May as a result of the murder of George Floyd, awarding the anthology composed of five films by Small Axe. It is an Amazon Prime Video production directed by the British Steve McQueen, the author of 12 years of slavery, which tells different stories of injustice and overcoming in the African immigrant community in London, between the 60s and 80s.
Besides best film, for the set of all of them, he obtained the one with the best photography and was the finalist in the direction category. And of the five that make up this McQueen work one, Lovers Rock, became a finalist in the best music section, composed by Mica Levi.
In Los Angeles critics accolades too the best actor stood out to the late Chadwick Boseman for his work on The mother of blues who achieved a second distinction obtaining the one of supporting actor for Glynn Turman; as well as the New Generation award for Radha Blank by Rapper at 40. Both are Netflix productions.
