Los Angeles FC will be battling for a fifth straight win in Salt Lake City

Chicago (USA), 4 August (EFE) .- Los Angeles FC will visit Real Salt Lake this Sunday to complete their escape from command of the MLS with their fifth consecutive win in a day that opens this Friday Western Conference to extend with the Houston Dynamo against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Steve Cherundolo’s side, who lost on penalties to America in a friendly at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium on Wednesday, are four points ahead of second-placed Austin FC and are still accelerating.

They defeated the Seattle Sounders, holders of the Concacaf Champions League, 2-1 the previous day with Carlos Vela’s seventh goal of the year.

Gareth Bale could play his first game as a starter alongside Giorgio Chiellini, this summer’s Angelenos star, having been a substitute in the previous three since signing.

That didn’t stop him from celebrating his first goal in the United States in a win at Sporting Kansas City.

Second-placed Austin FC will be looking to match LAFC and to do so they need to beat Spanish coach Álex Covelo’s San Jose Earthquakes at home.

The Texan team can count on a Sebastián Driussi in excellent form. He is the top scorer in MLS with fourteen goals and has either scored or provided an assist in his club’s last six games.

All of this was rewarded with the award for July MLS Player of the Month.

The situation at Los Angeles Galaxy is more complicated with the Mexican Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, who is currently out of the “playoffs” and has only won one of his last six games.

‘Chicharito’ has not scored since July 5 and will be looking to break his goal doldrums.

Of course, the Angelenos were comforted this Thursday with the signing of Spanish midfielder Riqui Puig from Barcelona.

In the East, the Philadelphia Union are leaders by three points over New York City and will visit the field of a troubled Cincinnati, whose last win dates back to June 24.
