New York’s biggest star was missing. But, Aaron Judge hit the ball to open the scoring in the first inning with a two-run home run which prompted Juan Soto. Immediately, Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit. a home run that made the score 3-0.
New York’s fourth was taken out in the second inning by Alex Verdugo. With Anthony Volpe 90 feet from home plate, the Mexican outfielder hit a line drive to right field. Giancarlo Stanton’s postseason was magical. The Yankees’ designated hitter hit a solo home run in the third inning to make it seven this season and 18 for his career in the playoffs.

Dodgers tie in the fifth inning
After four innings in which Gerrit Cole managed to hang up the ring, errors allowed the Dodgers to tie the game in the fifth inning. Kiké Hernández singled and then advanced to second because Judge didn’t catch Tommy Edman’s hit correctly. Then, Anthony Volpe couldn’t catch Will Smith’s hard grounder and the bases were loaded.
When it looked like Cole could avoid the run after striking out Gavin Lux and Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts opened the inning with an RBI single. Freddie Freeman added two more with a line drive to center and the game was tied with an RBI double by Teoscar Hernández.
Yankees shortstop destination
The Yankees regained the lead in the sixth inning thanks to a sac fly by Stanton that had Soto excited. Unfortunately, the Dodgers scored two runs in the eighth to take the lead once and for all. With the bases loaded, Luke Weaver relieved Tommy Kahnle, but Gavin Lux matched him with a sacrifice fly and Betts put the Angelenos ahead in the same fashion.
Walker Buehler closed out the win for the Dodgers
Dave Roberts singled out Walker Buehler to close the game and the pitcher did not disappoint his manager. The first Volpe went down lane 53 after a soft roll. He then hit Austin Wells with a knuckleball curveball that dropped as he neared the plate. Finally, Alex Verdugo suffered a strikeout swinging a combination of cutters and knuckleball curveballs for the 27th out.
