Big turnaround in the 1st round of the NBA basketball championship play-offs. Golden State stumbled at home 131-135 against the Los Angeles Clippers. However, the two-time defending champion had a 31-point lead (94-63) before collapsing. .
Never has a team with a 31-point lead lost a play-off match. Golden State managed this poor performance after already having been the first franchise in history, in 2016, to lose a final after leading 3 wins to 1, against Lebron James’ Cleveland.
The Warriors were in control of their subject and at the break, 73-50, both Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant & Co flew over the debates. And what to say when the marker read 94-63 after 2:29 in the 3rd quarter!
Then the Warriors took it a bit lightly and stopped playing. They conceded a 5-19 which revived the visitors. The star trio of the Clippers who led them to the play-offs has woken up. Lou Williams (36 points, 11 assists), Montrezl Harrell (25 points, 10 rebounds) and Danilo Gallinari (24 points) rocked the meeting. Impossible for the champions to straighten the bar as far as their pivot DeMarcus Cousins was injured in the first quarter. The Clippers, 8th in the regular season in the West, tie a win everywhere before the next two games in Los Angeles. The next meeting will be Thursday at the Staples Center.
