The Ecuadorian Red Cross carries out different voluntary blood donation campaigns in different sectors of the town, the objective is to help people who are in health homes and need donations.
The Ecuadorian Red Cross, located in the first constituent and pichincha streets, collects blood pints daily in the city, in order to help all families that require donations.
Viviana Segura, promoter of donation campaigns, mentioned: “We collect daily from our blood bank, between 10 and 15 donors, but we go to different institutions to which they open their doors and we collect 30 to 50 pints, the Ministry of Health also helps us with this activity in different cantons of the province”. She reported that the Red Cross needs between 1,000 and 1,200 pints per month to supply the province.
The requirements to make blood donations are; be between the ages of 18 and 65, not taking strong medication such as antibiotics or antidepressants, be in good health, and willing to help save the lives of others. In addition, he stated that a pint of blood can last a month, but the institution has benefits that last up to 6 months, the beneficiaries are; mothers in labor, accidents, people with catastrophic illnesses, such as leukemia or any type of cancer.
For people who do not donate, it has a cost of 105 dollars, since this NGO is not part of the state, because it has to self-manage funds to have the materials and technicians who collect evidence.
