Kannur – A lorry driver attempted suicide after the vehicle was checked by the police. Aravanchal, a native of Mudalpetti, tried to commit suicide by pouring petrol and setting himself on fire. Dramatic scenes unfolded in front of the Perringom police station around 5 pm on Saturday. The Peringom police stopped the lorry carrying the stone and asked the driver to pay a fine of Rs 25,000. It was also suggested to load the lorry at the station premises.

The driver stopped the vehicle on the roadside and handed over the keys to the police and informed that he did not have the money to pay the fine. Then he got petrol from the nearby petrol pump and poured it on the body and tried to set it on fire. The police intervened and stopped the suicide attempt.
