It is an essential event in the culture of Lorraine which has been celebrated since 1245.
The torchlight procession from Saint Nicolas, To Saint-Nicolas-de-Port (Meurthe-et-Moselle), had to be canceled in 2020 due to Covid-19. Despite the rising indicators in the region, the Saint-Nicolas festivities will take place.
Thus, the 775e edition of the torchlight procession will take place on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 8:30 p.m. at the basilica. The doors will be open to the public from 7:30 p.m. and the municipality specifies that wearing a mask will be compulsory.
Note that a shuttle can take the public from Nancy city center on Saturday at 6 p.m. She will leave from the rue des Carmes. Online booking is compulsory and the trip will cost 10 euros.
Parade, sound and light …
The torchlight procession will be the high point of a weekend full of entertainment to celebrate the patron saint of Lorraine. a parade will take place on Saturday at 5 p.m., followed by a sound and light show, Place des Droits-de-l’Homme, before the speech of Saint-Nicolas.
A Saint-Nicolas village will be set up on the Place des Droits-de-l’Homme where several activities for young and old will be offered. The whole program is to be found on the town’s website.
The youngest will also be entitled to their procession: it will take place on Sunday 5 December. Participants may be accompanied by their parents or friends.
